Blog Post #8

My group and I (Dream Team plus Emily Mann)  have taken a little break from filming, because everyone seems to be using the camera at this time. We need one more interview and then we are done filming and then we start editing and putting the final touches on our documentary! That's basically all that's going on right now, and I'm still VERY excited to see everyone's final documentaries.

I wasn't sure who to put for a person that has given a gift to humanity, so naturally I asked my mom who she though has given a gift to humanity and she said Jonas Salk, he was the creator of the Polio vaccine. Polio was a medical oddity that confused researchers for years. It was first recorded in 1835 and began to spread rapidly. It took a long time to learn that the virus was transmitted by fecal matter and secretions of the nose and throat. It entered the victim through the mouth or through the nose, went straight in the intestines, and then traveled to the brain or spinal cord. This disease caused most people to become quarantined, and most of the time this disease led to death. It took Jonas Salk 2 1/2 years to find the cure but he did which was a vaccine that stopped the disease in it's tracks. I feel if Jonas Salk never found a cure to Polio, the world would have ended.

Trailers were AWESOME! Everyone did such a great job, it's so cool to see how far everyone has come in the editing process thus far! I'm also so proud of my group, we are just cruising along in the documentary process and having fun while doing so. We got feedback on what we can change for the final and we will be taking all that advice into consideration! I can't wait to start working on the final project!

Not to sound dumb, but in all honesty I feel as though Justin Bieber has made such a huge social change in the world. I'm not just saying this because I'm a huge fan either :) He just had a movie come out where it came across in the trailer that it would be about him, just him, and no one else. But when you go and see the movie that perspective changes right away, you see how he grew up, under the poverty level, his mother was a teen mom, he grew up in his grandparents home, his father left him and his mom when he was about ten months old, and somehow within all that stress and craziness, this boy had major talent, he could play drums at the age of two, and started learning to play guitar at age 4, if you ask me, that's crazy. and to top it all off the kid can sing. So I feel like Justin Bieber brings hope to those who don't think they can do something, like if they don't think they have the money, or the skill, Justin Bieber shows he conquered it all and achieved a dream he'd never thought would come true. So yes, Justin Bieber has made such a meaningful social change in the past year!

I'm so excited about my documentary project because Hannah, Mariah, and I are, as far as we know, ahead of a lot of groups! This week we plan to go to MTN three times, to cut tomorrow, the put our trailer together Thursday and Friday and then we'll be done! And if we finish our trailer early, we will start our final! I can't wait till we're done, because I really want to see everyone elses finished products!

I wouldn't really say that I belong to a group, if anything I hang out with the same "group" of friends all the time so that would be my group, I guess. And what allows me to be part of this group is just being friends with all the people my friends are friends with and then the group just gets bigger with time :) A group I wouldn't be a part of would probably be the basketball girls because they all share an interest of basketball and I don't have a common interest?

I'm not too sure whether or not we are supposed to answer the reflection question on the back of the reading but I will anyways.
When talking about an instance where someone "got me wrong" or made an assumption about me that was false, this usually happens to me on daily basis. The common reaction I get from people when they don't know me is "Barbie" and believe me, I'm no where near Barbie standards whatsoever. I mean lets be realistic here, Barbie is perfect and I am in no way, anywhere close to perfect. And I don't see myself as Barbie at all, some say it's a compliment but I'm still not sure, to this day, how to take it.
As far as this article goes, I'm not too sure what's it's trying to say...I found myself reading it three or four times but I just don't understand what it's trying to get across. I know the narrator is of a different race, and the narrators "instructor" is white, and that the instructor wants his student, to write a page of something...which I am not certain of what the topic is! And throughout the story the narrator tells about himself, and comes to the realization that him and his instructor are different in many ways, but they have a commonality which is being American. That's what I got from this reading.
Moving onto the process of the Documentary project, my group and I are doing AMAZING. we are really moving along, we actually just did an interview with Mrs.Saddler earlier today, and we intend on getting some more shots of the art room, and maybe an interview with an art teacher. I think we are leaning more towards staying within South High for the documentary, because our school was once known for the arts program! We brought in our tape to MTN and uploaded it on the computer already, so we do plan on making cuts on certain shots and putting things together to start our trailer! I can't wait to put it all together and to see the final outcome.
