Blog Post #8

My group and I (Dream Team plus Emily Mann)  have taken a little break from filming, because everyone seems to be using the camera at this time. We need one more interview and then we are done filming and then we start editing and putting the final touches on our documentary! That's basically all that's going on right now, and I'm still VERY excited to see everyone's final documentaries.

I wasn't sure who to put for a person that has given a gift to humanity, so naturally I asked my mom who she though has given a gift to humanity and she said Jonas Salk, he was the creator of the Polio vaccine. Polio was a medical oddity that confused researchers for years. It was first recorded in 1835 and began to spread rapidly. It took a long time to learn that the virus was transmitted by fecal matter and secretions of the nose and throat. It entered the victim through the mouth or through the nose, went straight in the intestines, and then traveled to the brain or spinal cord. This disease caused most people to become quarantined, and most of the time this disease led to death. It took Jonas Salk 2 1/2 years to find the cure but he did which was a vaccine that stopped the disease in it's tracks. I feel if Jonas Salk never found a cure to Polio, the world would have ended.
